Welcome to Lassiter High School’s online home. We are located in Marietta, Georgia, about fifteen miles northwest of Atlanta and are home to over 2,000 wonderful students. Here at Lassiter, we are proud to have some of the best students, parents, teachers, and administrators around. Established in 1981, we have continuously received awards and accolades for our outstanding academic, athletic, and fine arts programs.
Transitioning to Post-Secondary Options
Cobb County schools and Marietta City schools are sponsoring a transition fair on September 10, 2015, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Marietta High School. The theme “Exploring the Possibilities” will focus on students exploring post-secondary programs leading to college and career readiness.
David Douglas Diamonds & Jewelry
Welcome to another year of Lassiter’s Drawing For Diamonds. Drawing For Diamonds is a drawing/writing contest that gives students the opportunity to design a necklace and tell us about the design. David Douglas Diamonds and Jewelry will turn the winning design into a piece of jewelry and present it to the homecoming queen on September 18, 2015.
The first place winner will receive a $250 store gift certificate, we will recognize him/her at the homecoming football game on September 18. Second and third place winners will receive a $100 store credit. A copy of the entry form is available in the front office.
The deadline is Friday, September 4, 2015. We must receive entries by 3:30 p.m. Students should turn in completed entries at the front office; there is a box in the front office for them.
The Student Learning Objectives (SLO) provide critical data to inform stakeholders of academic student growth over the course of the year. Beginning on Monday, August 17 through Friday, September 18 students will complete the SLO assessments to serve as the baseline for this year's student growth measure. Please view this attachment for additional details.
Academic Support and Enrichment (ASE)
The Academic Support and Enrichment (ASE) program has been created to provide students additional assistance for their coursework and high-stakes standardized testing. As an aid to support student success, ASE meets three times a week for thirty minutes during the school year. ASE will begin on Wednesday, August 26.
Health/Personal Fitness Credit Clarification
In light of Marietta City Schools allowing athletics, band, dance, and advanced physical conditioning be a component for a student earning his/her personal fitness credit, there have been many discussions and communications within our community that we need to clarify.
There are still many details that have to be addressed for this plan to become actionable, including the full review by the IE2 impact evaluation team. Additionally the timeline for this type of flexibility has not been finalized or communicated. Adequate time will be provided to schools to prepare, schedule, and consider the complexity of implementation. The Cobb County School District is scheduled to review this proposal and is in the process of examining the implications. However it is not something that is available at this moment. This proposal is scheduled to be reviewed at the end of this month and we anticipate details regarding the timing of its availability following that review. Cobb County’s proposal will look different than Marietta City Schools and is to include digital modules to supplement any flexible health/personal fitness choice.
As with any graduation rule change, an effective cohort class/effective date will be identified and phased in with each class. We will keep you updated as the proposal is considered and the next steps are drafted.
