Congratulations Trojan Marching Band!

It is with tremendous joy that I announce that the Lassiter High School Marching Trojan Band received an invitation to perform in the 130th annual Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. Only 13 bands from across the globe received this distinction after a rigorous application process. This marks an unprecedented fifth invitation extended to the Lassiter Band program to perform in America’s new year celebration; and I could not be more thrilled.

The Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day is an annual occurrence held in Southern California since 1890. The tournament is a celebration and salute to community spirit, service, and a love of pageantry. The Rose Parade is marked by a 5 ½ mile parade route along Colorado Boulevard through Pasadena, for an overwhelming one million spectators and a worldwide television viewing audience estimated at nearly half of a billion in over 80 countries. The opportunity to share our talents and represent our community for such a vast viewing audience is both daunting and thrilling.

Our beloved Lassiter band has gained national notoriety for its high level of achievement over the years. The fast paced, musically and visually challenging marching programs are a testament to an uncompromising commitment to excellence by our students, staff, and directors. It fills me with such joy to share our talents with the entire world. Moreover, I am appreciative to our students, staff, administration, and boosters for an uncompromising commitment to our standard of excellence. Work ethic is the hallmark of our program and is the precursor of this once in a lifetime opportunity. This invitation is a testament to the time, energy, and sacrifice paid by our students. Our Marching Trojans have worked hard to receive an occasion to showcase their talents for the world to see. In fact, to my knowledge, only the Sprayberry and Walton bands have received this opportunity, placing Lassiter in the extreme minority as one of the select few to perform in the Rose Parade.

In addition to work ethic, one of our most sacred traditions is service. A special thank you is in order for our senior Class of 2018. Like each senior class before them, they have learned to share their knowledge in service to the youngest and least skilled among them. Each Lassiter student learns the joy of gracious giving. The Class of 2018 will join the ranks of countless Lassiter band alumni who will look on with pride as “The TRADITION continues…” knowing that they are a part of that tradition. There is no way that we could have achieved this honor without them. We all thank you so very much.

While the Rose Parade will communicate the details of the performance very soon, today is cause for celebration, reflection, and joy. Happy homecoming. Take a bow Lassiter band, job well done!

Eyes with Pride,

James E. Thompson, Jr.

5k/Walk Like MADD Race

On Saturday, September 30, the Atlanta Falcons and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), along with the Atlanta Track Club, will be hosting the Mercedes-Benz Stadium 5K/Walk Like MADD race. All of the proceeds will go to Mothers Against Drunk Driving Georgia.

We support the mission behind this race. Additionally, if you want an inside peek into the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the 5k race/walk ends inside the stadium. This event is open to everyone in the Lassiter community with no age limit! If you register, please remember to choose Lassiter as your school! Everyone who registers and chooses Lassiter as their school will count towards our total.

As part of the race, the Atlanta Falcons are offering a high school challenge. This challenge is an opportunity for any Georgia high school to participate in the race and compete for various prizes. Last year, Lassiter High School won the high school challenge, and we are hoping to win again this year.

First Place Prize
The football team will serve as the Atlanta Falcons flag crew at the December 7 game (vs. New Orleans). The winning team will receive 100 tickets for players and coaching staff.
An Atlanta Falcons alumnus will be the keynote speaker at a school pep rally for a Friday night game. Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders will attend as well, and there will be prizes.

Don't delay! Register today!

PSAT Registration for Juniors

We strongly encourage all juniors to sign up for the PSAT in the counseling office between September 11 and October 6. The cost is $16.00 and we require exact change or a check made out to Lassiter. The PSAT, taken in the junior year, is the scholarship-qualifying test for national merit and other scholarships. It is also great practice for the SAT. Homerooms that have 90% sign up will receive chicken biscuits as a reward.

Congratulations, Coach Galvin!

Coach Galvin popped the question in front of nearly 2000 students and teachers at a recent pep rally.

Homeroom Challenge

Due to Irma and timing of homecoming, we are extending the Homeroom Challenge through October 12, with prizes being awarded on October 13. Please have your donations sent in to homeroom starting this week and then provide reminders that we will continue through October 12. Thank you for your support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

Congratulations, Mrs. Brown!

Huge congratulations to Alice Brown. She is the district’s classified employee of the year. This is an awesome recognition for Alice, as she does an exceptional job working in our attendance office. She has worked in the district for eighteen years with the last three at Lassiter. We are very lucky to have Alice on staff!

Drawing for Diamonds

Drawing For Diamonds is a drawing/writing contest that gives students the opportunity to design a necklace and tell us about the design. The winning design will be created into a piece of jewelry to present to the homecoming queen on September 15, 2017. The first place winner will receive a $250 gift certificate and will be recognized at the homecoming football game. Second and third place winners will receive a $100 gift certificate. To enter the contest, please fill out the entry form.

This meeting will explore the critical “to do” items prior to entering senior year, with input from several college admissions officers. Additionally, there will be discussions led by a clinical psychologist regarding the social and emotional challenges that students face while in high school.
  • Financial Aid Night

    Lassiter Concert Hall

This is a very informational meeting regarding the financial aid application process, sponsored by the Georgia Student Finance Commission. We invite parents of both 11th and 12th grade students to attend. This is a critical meeting for 12th grade parents of students that will attend a college in Georgia.
