The Lassiter School Counseling Department has been recognized as an ASCA Model Program/RAMP Award Winner! The RAMP designation recognizes schools that are committed to delivering a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and creating an exemplary educational environment.
The mission of the Cobb County School Counseling program is to assist students in overcoming barriers that impede learning. The goal of all Cobb County Professional School Counselors is to implement a standards-based comprehensive school counseling program that:
Includes a curriculum addressing the needs of all students in the domains of academic, personal/social, and career development
Provides specialized interventions based on identified student needs
Assists students in acquiring appropriate attitudes, knowledge, and communication skills to promote healthy relationships
Enhances the ability of students to identify and utilize the appropriate resources needed for post-secondary success
Creates positive relationships with students fostering personal growth, service to others, and academic achievement
Encourages counselors to consult and collaborate with other educators, parents, and community on behalf of all students
The Academic Support and Enrichment (ASE) program has been created to provide students additional assistance for their coursework and high-stakes standardized testing. As an aid to support student success, we meet three times a week for thirty minutes during the school year.
Enrichment opportunities such as Leadership, Math Team, Model UN, Academic Bowl, Peer Helpers, SAT Prep, college application process, Yearbook, and Newspaper are also available.
For additional questions about our ASE program, please contact Mr. Nate Fisher, the assistant principal and ASE coordinator for Lassiter High School.
We encourage you to read about the Common Core Standards that the state of Georgia, along with 47 other states, has adopted. The Common Core standards will provide a unified set of standards that will be used from state to state, which will prepare students for success in college and/or the 21st century workplace. You can also read the letter from our district office for more details.
For more information, please feel free to visit any of these websites:
All students will take the Georgia Milestones EOC after completing courses in Coordinate Algebra, Analytic Geometry, US History, Economics, Biology, Physical Science, 9th Grade Literature and Composition, and American Literature and Composition. Results of the EOC are used for diagnostic, remedial, and accountability purposes to gauge the quality of education in the state and also count as part of the student's final grade in the course. The EOC counts as 20% of the final grade.
Students typically start taking the SAT their junior year and may take it through their senior year. It is given seven times a year at area schools. Register early, so you can get your first-choice test center. For practice tests and to register for testing, visit CollegeBoard.com.
ACT
Register for the ACT through the ACT website, or you may pick up an application in the guidance office. As with the SAT, students will typically start taking the ACT their junior year into their senior year.
Brochures for information are available in the school counseling office.
