Lassiter Students Score Well on AP Exams
Lassiter students consistently score higher than the national average on Advanced Placement (AP) exams. We are pleased to share this news and invite you to check out the article recently published by the Marietta Daily Journal. This news story provides statistical data from Cobb and Marietta school districts for the total number of exams administered versus the number of students who score a three or above. Students taking the AP exam are graded on a scale of 1 to 5.
Historically, Lassiter has between 77% and 80% of students who score a three or better on the AP exams; this is significantly higher than the national average of about 60%. This fact serves as a testament to the quality of Lassiter’s AP program. We are proud of our teachers and students who continue to do an exceptional job with these rigorous courses and exams. This high level of performance also validates the hard work by our middle schools to take our students to the next level as they prepare to take on more challenging course work in high school. For more information about the Advanced Placement program, please visit the CCSD website.

Lassiter DECA Supports Breast Cancer Awareness
The Lassiter DECA club recently donated $3,500 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Students planned a calendar of fundraising activities for the month of October to increase the awareness of breast cancer. Fundraising activities included DECA members designing and selling pink t-shirts, holding bake sales, and selling pink spirit items. The largest fundraising event was the community "Pink Out" which was held on September 28, 2012. Local breast cancer survivor, Emily Buttrill who is the grandmother of LHS DECA member Alana Abbott, conducted the coin toss before the game. This is the fifth consecutive year that Lassiter DECA has raised money for the cause.

Lassiter High Celebrates Red Ribbon Week
Lassiter High School PTSA recently led their second annual “e” campaign. Lassiter PTSA created their own spin to the National Red Ribbon Week (the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program) by coming up with the “e” campaign.
The red "e" symbolizes the importance of being “ready” to make good choices and avoiding drugs and alcohol. PTSA did a tremendous job communicating the importance of this campaign to the Lassiter school community. To emphasize the importance of making good choices, families received daily e-mails with information about staying informed and involved in relation to drug and alcohol awareness. Also, posters were displayed all over the Lassiter campus highlighting the positive things that Lassiter students and families have accomplished. Each poster included the “e” to designate the information as a good choice by a Lassiter student or staff member.
Lassiter students came out in full force on Friday night at the football game with a "Red Out" to show their support of the campaign. We owe a big "thank you" to the Lassiter High PTSA for supporting Lassiter students and highlighting the importance of making good choices!

Lassiter's ACT Scores Above National Average
Congratulations! Lassiter’s ACT composite scores are above the national average! With an 11% increase in the number of students tested, Lassiter’s overall composite score remained above 24. The importance of our students being competitive on both the SAT and ACT is one of our academic goals at Lassiter. We encourage our parents to make sure that they are familiar with the college admission requirements on both the SAT and ACT. We also recommend that parents speak with a school counselor to find out how Lassiter can help a student achieve a score that puts him or her in a position to be competitive in the college application process. Please read the dictrict's press release.
